Filipino cinema’s reigning queen of rom-com, Kim Chiu, returns to the big screen with a surprising blend of romance, humor, and magical realism in My Love Will Make You Disappear. Paired with the ever-versatile Paulo Avelino, the film delivers a heartwarming and slightly whimsical love story that has quickly won over audiences across the Philippines and beyond.

Directed by Chad Vidanes, the film follows Sari acted by Chiu, a woman convinced she is cursed as every man she falls in love with mysteriously vanishes. Living in fear of her own heart, Sari’s life takes a turn when she meets Jolo acted by Avelino, a brooding, emotionally bruised landlord who oddly seems to welcome the idea of disappearing. What begins as an awkward tenant-landlord relationship soon evolves into an emotionally layered journey of healing, vulnerability, and rediscovery.

At the heart of the film is the undeniable chemistry between Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino. Their pairing, affectionately dubbed KimPau by fans, proves to be a major strength. Chiu delivers a nuanced performance that balances her signature charm with emotional depth, while Avelino gives a restrained yet captivating portrayal of a man quietly battling grief.

Supporting roles from Melai Cantiveros, Wilma Doesnt, and Lovely Abella add a comedic punch to the story, grounding it in a relatable community vibe that feels authentically Filipino.

Visually, the film is polished and stylish, with scenes shot at Manila’s iconic Jones Bridge lending a cinematic flair reminiscent of European rom-coms, despite its local setting.

What sets My Love Will Make You Disappear apart from standard romantic comedies is its subtle magical realism. The film flirts with the supernatural without becoming overly fantastical, using its mysterious curse as a metaphor for emotional baggage, self-sabotage, and the fear of vulnerability in love.
