Ugandan fashion is set to enter a new phase of public conversation as media personalities Mami Deb and Prim Asiimwe prepare to launch Fashion X, a new fashion critique and culture programme premiering on the Play It Loud streaming platform this Friday.
The show makes its debut against the backdrop of one of the country’s most prominent fashion events—the Abryanz Style and Fashion Awards (ASFAs) Honorary Gala—scheduled for Friday, December 19, at the Kampala Serena Hotel. By aligning its premiere with the ASFAs red carpet, Fashion X positions itself at the centre of Uganda’s most influential fashion moment of the year.
Fashion X is designed as a critical fashion and culture platform, examining style beyond surface aesthetics to explore expression, identity and evolving trends within Uganda’s creative landscape. Led by Mami Deb and Prim Asiimwe, the programme aims to bring structured critique, informed commentary and cultural context to fashion discourse, an area that has largely been celebratory rather than analytical in mainstream media.

The ASFAs Honorary Gala is expected to draw leading designers, models, musicians, cultural figures and industry stakeholders, reinforcing its status as a key convergence point for fashion and entertainment. This year’s edition will also feature the inaugural NRG Half Time Show, presented by NRG Radio, with Ugandan pop star Vinka headlining the performance lineup.
Additional musical performances on the night will come from Elijah Kitaka, Karole Kasita and Tyra Chantey, alongside Rwanda’s Kevin Kade. Dance performances are set to be delivered by Valentino, while DJ Vee and DJ Harold will provide music throughout the evening.
Organisers describe this year’s ceremony as more than an awards event, highlighting its role in documenting and shaping the country’s evolving fashion narrative. The live red carpet, a central feature of the gala, will serve as the visual and cultural stage on which Fashion X begins its engagement with designers, stylists and public figures, capturing fashion as it unfolds in real time.
The launch of Fashion X comes amid a broader shift in Uganda’s creative media space, where platforms such as Play It Loud are increasingly prioritising locally driven content and creator-led storytelling. By introducing fashion critique into mainstream streaming, the show signals a growing appetite for deeper, more reflective conversations around style and cultural identity.

Tickets for the ASFAs Honorary Gala are currently on sale via quicket.co.ug at Shs250,000, while corporate tables are available at Shs5 million.
As the fashion industry gathers under one roof this Friday, all eyes will be on the red carpet—not only to celebrate style, but to mark the arrival of a new voice examining how fashion is seen, understood and remembered in Uganda.
