Ugandan dancehall artiste Beenie Gunter, real name Crescent Baguma, has launched his 2026 music campaign with the release of a new single titled “Dreams Can’t Die”, featuring Jamaican star Dexta Daps. The track premiered on February 20, setting the tone for Gunter’s latest full-length project, New School Tape Vol. 1, which followed shortly after on February 23—his first album release since 2022.

The single represents more than a routine collaboration, bringing together African and Caribbean influences on a shared dancehall rhythm. According to Mark Lawrence of Terror Family Productions, the project reflects the continued global expansion of dancehall music while maintaining its cultural roots.

Production of the track was led by Tag Studios in partnership with Terror Family Productions, marking Gunter’s first major Jamaica-based collaboration of the year. Talent Africa Group Executive Producer Aly Allibhai noted that the record stood out from its early stages, describing its sound as both uplifting and driven by a strong, assertive energy.

Musically, “Dreams Can’t Die” blends rhythmic beats with melodic elements, delivering a message centred on resilience, ambition, and belief in one’s journey. Gunter’s confident delivery complements Dexta Daps’ signature emotive and melodic style, creating a balance that highlights both artistes’ strengths.

The release also builds on the legacy of Terror Family Productions, a Jamaica-based outfit known for its contribution to dancehall, including recent work such as Feeling Alive (Up Yuhself) and the widely recognised “Survivor” by Popcaan.

“Dreams Can’t Die” serves as a key track on New School Tape Vol. 1, an album that explores Gunter’s personal and professional journey. The project reflects on his experiences within the music industry, including management changes in 2024, while documenting his growth and positioning within Uganda’s evolving dancehall scene.

Beenie Gunter, who rose to prominence with hits such as “Pon Mi” featuring Skales and “Olina Work”, continues to solidify his presence as a leading figure in the genre. Since recording his debut single “No Offense” in 2013 and later establishing his GunTalk Movement label, the artiste has remained a consistent force in shaping Uganda’s dancehall sound.
