Uganda’s iconic Afrigo Band is about to hit a milestone few music groups anywhere in the world can boast — 50 years of continuous performance.
In a press briefing ahead of their golden jubilee concert, set for Saturday, August 16, 2025, at the Kampala Sheraton, the band members spoke with warmth and gratitude about their journey. Racheal Magoola, singer and band member, reflected on their legacy:
“We’ve played for five generations. These days, we see children and grandchildren singing along to our music, and it’s such a blessing. This 50-year mark is rare — many will never see another band reach it. That’s why this concert is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration.”
The jubilee will be made even more special with a guest appearance by African music legend Kofi Olomide. Band founder Moses Matovu called it “an honour” to share the stage with him, while Kofi himself praised Afrigo’s achievement. “It’s a big deal — 50 years of success. We all try to reach this level, but it’s incredibly hard.”

Event organiser Aly Alibhai of Talent Africa Group summed it up best:
“Afrigo has been the soundtrack of Uganda for half a century. Now we get to celebrate their incredible journey together.”
The night promises more than just nostalgia. With backing from Stanbic Bank, Tusker Malt, Sheraton, Capital FM, SafeBoda, Pepsi, and UCC, the production will be grand. Tickets are already on sale: Bronze (UGX 50,000) and Silver (UGX 100,000), available via the FlexiPay App or by dialling *291# for quick, cashless purchases.
For those seeking VIP vibes, table packages are up for grabs — Gold (UGX 3M), Diamond (UGX 5M), and Platinum (UGX 10M), each seating eight guests.

Half a century of music, memories, and magic — Afrigo’s story is Uganda’s story. August 16 will not just be a concert. It will be history in harmony.
