Friday night saw the lush Sheraton Gardens transform into a haven of humor, heat, and heartfelt celebration as Anne Kansiime’s Comedy Grill lit up the city in honor of her decade-long journey in the comedy world. The show, curated by Talent Africa Group, delivered a sizzling blend of witty banter, comedic roasts, and nostalgic reflection — all wrapped in Ugandan flavor.
Guests arrived to a glamorous red-carpet reception and were welcomed with signature Uganda Waragi Lemon & Ginger cocktails, setting the mood for a night full of spirited laughter. The buzz in the air hinted at something more than just comedy — it was a cultural moment.
Opening the night with a sharp teaser set was comedian Daniel Omara, warming up the audience with punchy previews of what was to come. Then came the lively hosting duo of Tuwangye Richard and Deedan Muyiira, who fired up the stage with charisma and comedic chemistry, ushering in what they dubbed the night’s “Grill Chefs.”
These roasters — a vibrant mix of household names and fresh faces — included Salvador, Madrat and Chico, Nana Kagga, GNL Zamba, Gaetano Kaggwa, Dr. Miria Matembe, Prim Asiimwe, and Skylanta. Each brought their own spice to the roast, lovingly teasing Kansiime while taking clever jabs at each other. The sets revealed not only humor but the deep talent and camaraderie within Uganda’s entertainment scene.
Uganda Breweries’ Brand Manager for Mainstream Spirits, Hillary Baguma, highlighted the synergy of comedy and culture, saying, “Watching these talents converge in one space was phenomenal. Uganda Waragi Lemon & Ginger was thrilled to be at the heart of a celebration that felt truly Ugandan — bold, fun, and unfiltered.”
When the woman of the hour, Anne Kansiime, made her grand entrance in a dazzling floral pink gown, the audience erupted in cheers. Seated at the grill’s “hot seat,” she received each roast with grace, hearty laughter, and signature sass. The jabs flew, the crowd roared, and the energy never dipped.
The roasting reached new highs when GNL Zamba kicked off the lineup, setting the tone for the night’s hilarious clapbacks. As the comedy intensified, so did the connection between performers and the crowd — a true celebration of talent and tenacity.
Aly Allibhai, CEO of Talent Africa Group, who also took a few friendly hits during the show, reflected, “This was more than a roast — it was a tribute. It was about honoring Anne’s legacy while pushing the boundaries of what comedy can look like in Uganda. With Uganda Waragi on board, we built an unforgettable experience that hit all the right notes.”
When Kansiime finally took the mic, she addressed the crowd with both humor and humility: “You’ve roasted me, laughed at me, and I’ve loved every moment of it. My heart is full.” In a touching close, she thanked her fans, fellow comedians, sponsors, and everyone who has walked alongside her in her 10-year comedy journey.
As the night wrapped up, the audience left with more than laughs — they carried with them the sense of having witnessed a cultural milestone. The Comedy Grill wasn’t just a show — it was the beginning of a new chapter in Uganda’s comedy scene.
