Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Cameroon international Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial fee of $87 million, marking a major move in Ruben Amorim’s aggressive summer rebuild of the club’s misfiring front line.
Mbeumo, 25, caught Amorim’s eye after an outstanding Premier League season in which he netted 20 goals in 38 appearances for the Bees. The versatile winger is expected to undergo a medical before linking up with the United squad for their pre-season tour of the United States starting Tuesday.
The signing of Mbeumo makes him United’s third acquisition since the end of a disappointing 2024–25 campaign. He joins forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon at Old Trafford, as Amorim aims to reshape the squad following a lackluster season that ended with a 15th-place Premier League finish and a 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.
With key attacking players Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee underperforming last season, Amorim is clearing the decks. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford are expected to exit following their loan stints at Chelsea and Aston Villa, respectively, while rising star Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told to find a new club.
Despite missing out on Champions League football which cost the club at least $94 million in revenue, United have not shied away from spending. Their acquisition of Cunha for $84 million and now Mbeumo reflects Amorim’s urgency to retool the attack.
Mbeumo arrives at Old Trafford with an impressive résumé. Since joining Brentford from Troyes in 2019, he has scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 appearances across all competitions. He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and was central to their 10th-place finish in the 2024–25 season.
Known for his blistering pace, technical creativity, and finishing ability, Mbeumo is expected to inject much-needed dynamism into United’s attack whether deployed on the wing or in more central roles.
