Tyler Perry’s Straw is takes you on an emotional rollercoaster with Janiyah Wiltkinson’s story of a forty year old single mother in Atlanta, having the worst day of her life.
Her day is thrust into a web of misfortunes, starting with a harassing landlord, demeaning school administrator, a big line of grocery customers, a bad boss, and enraged police officer. Her child is taken away by social services, she gets fired, and while she tries to get her paycheck, an armed robbery happens and she is dragged into it. As she tries to cash out her check across the street, a misunderstood bank robbery happens and she is the culprit.
The plot twist at the end was a secret ingredient for the story’s success.
The film was directed by Tyler Perry and it stars Taraji P. Henson, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Sherri Shepherd Rockmond Dunbar, Ashley Versher, Mike Merrill, and Glynn Turman.

“The movie represents three different types of Black women, who are all the same Black woman, who are all different walks of life, different stages of success, but can all empathize with each other,” Tyler Perry says.
