Ugandan singer and Mpaka Records boss Ykee Benda has officially been introduced to his fiancé Emily Nyawira’s family in a traditional Kukyala ceremony, marking a major milestone in their relationship.
The intimate visit took place on Thursday, with close family members and elders from both sides in attendance. The Kukyala, a pre-introduction ceremony in many Ugandan cultures serves as a formal visit by the groom-to-be to the bride’s family, laying the groundwork for future marriage rites.
Taking to his official Facebook page, Ykee Benda, born Wycliffe Tugume, shared his joy and gratitude for the successful ceremony. In a heartfelt post, he wrote:
“Yesterday, baby took Dadzy to her Daddy! Three years ago, I made a promise to a young lawyer that I would bring honor to her name and her father’s house. Yesterday was the beginning of fulfilling that promise.”
He went on to describe the emotional moment when Emily walked into a room full of family members, knelt to greet him, and introduced him to her father. This symbolic act, steeped in cultural tradition, was followed by a private session where elders from both families held discussions.
“The old men met and agreed on the cows and goats, and we, the two lovebirds, couldn’t be more grateful to God,” he shared.
Ykee Benda concluded his post by thanking friends and well-wishers who have supported their journey. He also hinted at the next step in their traditional marriage process.
