Controversial businessman Emmanuel Lwasa has come to the defense of embattled travel company boss Don Chris, promising to pay off part of the debts owed to dozens of victims allegedly scammed through a fake overseas job scheme.
In an interview with a local television station, Lwasa described Don Chris as a “good man” who has helped many people in the past and therefore doesn’t deserve to end up in jail despite the ongoing fraud allegations.
“I will clear part of Don Chris’s debts because he is a good person and has supported many people. He shouldn’t be arrested over that money. Whoever is owed by him will be receiving part of the money they demand,” Lwasa said
Don Chris, who runs Sky Pins Tours and Travel, is currently on the run after allegedly collecting over UGX 500 million from unemployed Ugandans. He reportedly promised them lucrative jobs in Europe but failed to deliver on his commitments, leaving many devastated and financially crippled.
Despite the public backlash surrounding the scandal, Lwasa has appealed for understanding and forgiveness from the victims, urging them to come forward with proof of the money they handed over, including receipts or written agreements.
“I, however, want proof of giving him the money; come with receipts or agreements,” Lwasa emphasized.
