Popular Ugandan movie translator Mary smarts Matovu aka VJ Junior has backtracked on his earlier decision to retire from the commentary scene, following a wave of backlash and criticism from fans on social media.
Just days ago, the celebrated video jockey revealed in an interview with Spark TV that he was planning to step away from movie translation to focus on personal investments, an announcement that quickly sparked outrage across the internet.
The news struck a nerve among fans, many of whom expressed disappointment, with some even resorting to online insults aimed at the beloved entertainer.
“People can abuse. I have been abused by everyone, even the small ones who always wanted to abuse me used this opportunity to abuse me,” VJ Junior said on Tiktok, reflecting on the unexpected reaction.
Often regarded as one of Uganda’s most recognizable VJs, Junior’s unique blend of humor, storytelling, and voiceover style has earned him a loyal fan base.
Faced with backlash, VJ Junior has now decided to stay in the industry for the time being. While he didn’t completely rule out stepping away in the future, he appears to have taken the online uproar as proof that his work still matters deeply to many.
